About Dr. Mark Bilowus

A graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo and Georgetown University, Dr. Bilowus formerly served as Chief of Section of Urology at the Reston Hospital Center. Today, he operates a private practice in conjunction with Virginia HIFU, which is in the Reston Hospital Center. He is known around the world as an authority in the field of urology, with publications in prestigious journals like the Journal of Urology.

Dr. Bilowus served his Urology internship at the State University of New York School of Medicine in Buffalo. Upon completion, he received postgraduate training in General Surgery at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center, New York; Pediatric Urology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, England; and Adult and Pediatric Urology at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.

Upon completion of his training, Dr. Bilowus received certification from the American Board of Urology in 1990. He later was recertified in 1997 and 2008. He also holds membership with several associations and societies, including the American Cancer Association, American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, Fairfax County Medical Society, Virginia State Medical Society, Southern Medical Association, Washington Urological Society, Virginia Urological Society and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Bilowus is affiliated with the Inova Fairfax Hospital, Invoa Fair Oaks Hospital, Potomac Hospital, and Reston Hospital Center. In 2009, Dr. Bilowus was awarded the Presidency of the Virginia Urological Society.

Dr. Bilowus regularly adds to the medical field by participating in continuing education programs and maintaining a knowledge of technologies and innovations available in urology. Recently he has attended training on Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy Therapy, Cryotherapy and the Medtronic Prostiva System. Dr. Bilowus has been using the HIFU Sonablate 500 since 2007.

Dr. Bilowus currently resides in Reston, Virginia, with his wife and three children. He enjoys outdoor sports such as tennis, skiing, fishing, and camping. He also speaks fluent Spanish. Dr. Bilowus and his team aim to provide patients with the highest level of care in an environment with a personal, friendly touch. Patients receive appointments soon after they call, with those having pressing needs, like prostate cancer, or tight schedules receiving priority. The doctor also makes personal phone calls to his patients when discussing their cases.
