What Is HIFU with TCM?

TCM, or Tissue Change Monitoring, is a software module designed for the Sonablate 500. It allows the physician to monitor real-time tissue changes during HIFU treatment of cancer and BPH. The real time feedback allows the surgeon to know exactly what is happening within the prostate gland, allowing each treatment to be tailored to the patient’s own response.

How the Software Works

TCM uses radio frequency signals to capture a measurement of the focal point just before delivering HIFU and just after HIFU is complete. This calculates the change in the tissue that occurs, displaying it on screen for the physician to see. The calculation compares radio frequency ultrasound pulse-echo signals at each focal point to quantify the tissue change.
